FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with chronic pain conditions?

Yes. Kristin has over 25 years of experience working with clients experiencing chronic pain, tension patterns, and movement restrictions. Massage therapy can be an effective approach for managing long-term discomfort and improving quality of movement.

Is Massage Therapy only for people in pain?

While many clients seek massage therapy for pain relief, it is also highly effective for improving mobility, supporting recovery, managing stress, and maintaining overall physical function. Many clients use massage proactively to prevent issues before they become painful.

Is Sports Massage only for professional athletes?

Sports Massage is beneficial for anyone who is physically active, including recreational athletes, hikers, runners, fitness enthusiasts, and individuals with physically demanding jobs. Sessions are always tailored to your activity level and specific goals.

What is the difference between Sports Massage and regular massage?

Sports Massage is more focused on performance, recovery, and injury prevention. It often targets specific muscle groups, movement patterns, and areas under repetitive or high load. Techniques may vary depending on whether the session is pre-activity, post-activity, or part of ongoing maintenance.

What is Structural Integration (Rolfing®)?

Structural Integration is a form of bodywork that focuses on improving alignment, posture, and movement efficiency by addressing restrictions in the connective tissue (fascia). It is especially helpful for chronic pain, postural imbalance, movement limitations, and long-standing tension patterns.

Do I need to be athletic to benefit from Structural Integration?

Structural Integration benefits people of all ages and activity levels. Many clients seek this work for chronic pain, reduced mobility, or postural issues related to daily life, work, or past injuries—not just athletics.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, history, and current condition. Some clients benefit from occasional maintenance sessions, while others choose a short series of treatments to address specific issues. This will be discussed during your initial appointment.

Have you worked with high-performance or professional athletes?

Yes. Kristin has worked with a range of professional athletes, including experience providing sports massage for players in the New York Yankees farm system. This background informs a precise, performance-aware approach to treatment.

Is Massage Therapy appropriate during training or competition seasons?

Yes. Massage therapy can be adapted to support training and competition schedules. Techniques may vary to prepare the body, support recovery, or maintain mobility without overstressing tissues.

Do you customize each session?

Absolutely. Every session is tailored to the individual based on current symptoms, activity level, goals, and physical demands. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach.

What should I expect during my first session?

Your first session includes a brief intake, discussion of goals and concerns, and hands-on treatment. Postural or movement observations may be included when appropriate. You are always encouraged to communicate preferences and feedback during the session.

Do you accept insurance?

Massage therapy services are typically self-pay. If you plan to submit for reimbursement, receipts can be provided upon request. Please check with your insurance provider regarding coverage.
